The 2018 National Championships Starts Tomorrow!

A welcome message by CWSA CEO Catherine Cadieux,

Hello Calgary!

On behalf of the Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association, I would like to welcome you to the 2018 Canadian Wheelchair Rugby National Championship.  As the Canadian Heritage Sport of wheelchair rugby continues to grow in popularity, it’s exciting to know that fans in Alberta will once again have the opportunity to experience the best our sport has to offer in Canada.

At this time I’d like to tell you about some significant changes the CWSA will undergo in 2018.  On July 1st our organization will officially begin doing business as Wheelchair Rugby Canada.  This new direction reflects how we have transitioned from serving as the national governing body for a wide range of wheelchair sports in 1967 to what we are today; the sole governing body for the sport of Wheelchair Rugby in Canada.

As we implement this change we will be unveiling our new brand logo and website so stay tuned. What will not change, however, is our commitment to our values of teamwork, integrity and excellence, and our dedication to delivering world-class programs and services to Canadians with disabilities.

As we begin competition at the new Shane Homes YMCA, I’d like to thank this year’s organizing committee for their tireless work leading up to this event. Committee members Jen Sales, Duncan Campbell, Patrice Dagenais, Ryan Van Keulen, Bruce Crosby, Ben Parker-Jones, Meg Ritcey, Nancy Wong, Sean Bevan, Julie Bakke, Cliff Wooden and Dave Guiry have invested countless hours in the planning and delivery of the 2018 Nationals to make sure every participant has a great competitive experience.

I would also like to extend a very sincere thank you to all of our sponsors, partners and volunteers.  Without their contributions this event would not be possible.

Good luck to all, have fun and let’s play rugby!
