HAMILTON TO HOST THE 2017 CANADIAN WHEELCHAIR RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP

(Ottawa, ON – Apr. 6) The excitement is building, as today marks 50 days until the start of the 2017 Canadian Wheelchair Rugby Championship in Hamilton, Ontario.

From May 26th to May 28th, the top wheelchair rugby teams from across the country will converge at Mohawk College to compete in the hope of being crowned Canadian Champions.

“This will be our first ever National Championship held in Hamilton.  As we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Canadian Heritage Sport of Wheelchair Rugby, we’re looking forward to giving our fans in Hamilton the opportunity to watch the best athletes in Canada vie for the Campbell Cup” said CWSA CEO Catherine Cadieux.

The question on everyone’s mind is: who will come out on top this year?

Will the Ontario Thunder capture their sixth title in seven years? Will Team BC get their revenge, after losing 53-47 in last year’s fiercely contested final? Is it time for another province to take that top spot on the podium?

We may have to wait until May to find out, but one thing is certain: fans of the sport are in for a real treat.

“The Ontario Wheelchair Sports Association is honored to be hosting this year’s national championship, as wheelchair rugby celebrates its 40th anniversary,” said OWSA Executive Director Laura Wilson. “The weekend will include many special activities and celebrations to mark this important milestone and we look forward to welcoming the athletes, coaches and fans to the city of Hamilton in May.”

The CWSA is pleased to announce that Coloplast will be returning as an official partner of the 2017 Canadian Wheelchair Rugby National Championship.

Admission to the venue will be free of charge and spectators are encouraged to come cheer on the athletes.

An announcement regarding team rosters and the tournament schedule will be made at a later date.
