Story #45 - Doug Grant

Douglas “Doug” J. Grant est né à Portage La Prairie, au Manitoba, en 1962, et il a été élevé à Winnipeg. Dans sa jeunesse, il était très sportif, et pratiquait le hockey sur glace et la crosse. En 1981, Doug a été blessé dans un accident de voiture qui l'a laissé tétraplégique.

Story #45 - Doug Grant

Douglas “Doug” J. Grant was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba in 1962 and raised in Winnipeg. As a young man, he was very athletic, participating in both hockey and lacrosse. In 1981, Doug was injured in a car accident and became a quadriplegic. True to his competitive spirit, he quickly became involved with the Manitoba Wheelchair Sports Association (MWSA) by playing wheelchair rugby during his rehabilitation.

Sandra DeVenney (née Davenport) a passé son enfance dans la petite communauté rurale de Central Blissville, au Nouveau-Brunswick, située à 40 kilomètres de la ville de Fredericton. À neuf ans, à cause de la polio, elle restée paralysée de la jambe droite. Malgré cela, sa mère ne lui a jamais accordé de favoritisme et lui a toujours attribué sa part de tâches à accomplir à la maison.

Story #14: Sandra DeVenney

Sandra DeVenney (née Davenport) grew up in the small, rural community of Central Blissville, New Brunswick, located about 25 miles from the city of Fredericton. At the age of nine, she was afflicted with paralysis in her right leg as a result of polio. Despite this, her mother never gave her any favouritism and made her pull her weight with chores around the home. Growing up, Sandra had plenty of energy, and having polio never slowed her down.
